Mary's Independence Day Salt & Pepper Shakers

I display this collection starting Memorial weekend until Labor Day weekend.

My Independence Day collection started with just stars, stripes, and flags, but I decided to add watermelons. Most people love to eat watermelons during the summer months. Unfortunately, I have only found Black Americana sets that include people with watermelons. I apologize to anyone that finds my collection distasteful or offensive. It is a collection, I am not selling any of my Black Americana sets. Just like you would find photos and information about Black Americana salt and pepper shakers in a library, you'll find photos and information about my collection on this site. Please do not expect me to remove them from my collection. I am very fond of these pieces and you'll notice there are many sets that are not for sale (NSF). Please read the information I found online "Living With Black Americana" by Pamela Wiggins. It is a very good message.

Flag Cubes
#I001 $22	The flag cubes are hand painted. They measure a little over 2" or 5¼cm. All four sides have red and white stripes running vertical, but two of the four sides have two white stars over a dark blue stripe running horizontal. The top of the shaker cubes are the same dark blue with each having 2 holes. They both have their plastic stoppers. By Russ Berrie & Co.

Flag Stars
#I012 $22	The five point flag stars shakers measure about 3" or 7¾cm. Three points are red and white stripes running vertical. Two points are blue with white stars. The ceramic shakers both have plastic stoppers. They are created and distributed by Woodard and Charles Ltd., Hicksville, NY - Made in China $14(EB1102)

Flag on Tray
#I005	This is a three-piece set. The shakers sit on a tray that is red, white, and blue. The blue tray's top has red and white stripes that point toward the shakers and there are white stars in the section the shakers sit. The shakers are 4½" or 10½cm tall and the tray is about 1½" or 3½cm high, 6½" or 16½cm long, and 4" or 10cm deep. The 2-holed shaker has three blue sides; the top is blue with one big white star. The front top half is blue with white stars and the bottom half has red and white horizontal stripes. The 3-holed shaker's top is white with one big blue star; the four sides are all red and white horizonal stripes. Both have their plastic stopper. By Lotus - Made in China

Girl Holding Watermelon
#I010	This is one of my Black Americana sets. The 3-holed shaker is a little black girl sitting on a stool. She's wearing a green dress with red polka dots and white trim. She has her hair pulled up on top of her hair and she's wearing a white and pink bow. She's holding out her arms on her lap. The 2-holed shaker, a slice of watermelon, sits on her lap. The watermelon is pinkish-red with black seeds and a green rind. Sitting on her chair, she's a little taller than 4½" or 11½cm; high. Both shakers have their cork stoppers.

Heart Shaped Flag
#I003 $22	When put together the salt and pepper shakers become a heart shaped flag. Except for their holes the 2-holed and 3-holed shakers are the same. The shakers are off-white. On one side the top half is blue with five white stars and the bottom half has red and off-white horizontal stripes. The other side has red and off-white horizontal lines. Man's Head and Watermelon
#I014	This is one of my Black Americana sets. The 3-holed shaker is a black man's head that stands 2¼" or 5½cm tall. He's wearing a green hat with yellow trim. He has a great big smile and he's looking off to the side, probably looking at the slice of watermelon. The slice of watermelon is just under 1¼" or 3cm high and 3¾" or 9 cm long. Native Holding Watermelon
#I011	This is one of my Black Americana sets. This set has a 5-holed shaker that is a black boy with brown hair, big round eyes, and a great big smile. He is sitting down about 3" tall or 7½cm, feet together (his right foot was repaired), and knees out. He's wearing big green leaves around his bottom. The 4-holed shaker is a great big piece of watermelon that sits in the boy's lap. Both shakers have their cork stoppers. Native Holding Watermelon Nodder
#I016	This is one of my three Black Americana sets. This set has a 3-holed shaker that is a nodding head with gray hair, big round eyes, and a great big smile. She is sitting down about 3½" tall or 9 cm, her legs are crossed. She's holding a 4-holed shaker that is a great big piece of watermelon that sits on her lap and covers her front top. The nodder is missing the stopper, but the watermelon has the cork stopper. The nodder is stamped PAT.T.T. Made in Japan

Pride and Glory
#I006 $22	This set of salt and pepper shakers are the same exact size measuring at about 2¾" or 7cm high. The 3-holed shaker's top half is dark blue with white stars; the bottom half has red and white stipes running vertical. The 2-holed shaker's top third is dark blue with white starts and the bottom two-thirds has red and white stripes running horizontal. Both bottoms have a dark blue top and bottom rim. Red, White and Blue Push Button Shaker
#I015	This plastic salt and pepper shaker piece is plastic. One third is red, one third is white and one third is blue. Above the white middle section there is a white button and black button to push and release the salt or pepper from the bottom of the shaker. On the front of the white section there is an "S" and "P" with arrows pointing to the left and right. The shaker stands about 2½" or 6cm high and 3" or 8cm wide.

Star and Stripes
#I002	This set is plastic. The 3-holed shaker is a blue star. One of the points of the star fits into the 5-holed shaker. The 5-holed shaker is a red and white striped piece that represents a flag waving. Together they are just about 3¾" or 9½cm. They both have their plastic stoppers. By Avon

Watermelon Halves
#I013	Each salt and pepper shaker is a half of a watermelon, together they make three quarters of a whole watermelon. Both piece are the same except one piece has 3 holes the other has 2 holes. They are the same color as a real piece of watermelon; the middle section is pinkish-red with three black seeds, the white rind, and the green peel. Each pieces stands about 3" or 7½cm tall. Both pieces have their plastic stoppers. $10=$12('95)

Watermelon Halves
#I017	Each salt and pepper shaker is a half of a watermelon, together they make a whole watermelon. The green peel is bright and has dark green markings with a white rind, the pinkish-red middle and plenty of watermelon seeds. Both pieces stand about 2¼" or 8cm each. The 3-hole watermelon is the bottom piece. The 2-holed watermelon half sits on top of the other shaker. Both pieces have their plastic stoppers. The markings ©1638444 China are on the bottom of both pieces. Thanks to my friend Mary McGuire for this set.

Watermelon Slice
#I009	Each salt and pepper shaker is a half of a slice of watermelon, together they make a whole slice. Both piece are the same except one piece has 3 holes the other has 2 holes. They are the same color as a real piece of watermelon; the middle section is pinkish-red with black seeds, the white rind, and the green peel. Together these pieces equal a 6" or 15cm slice. Both pieces have their plastic stoppers. Made in China

Watermelon Slices
#I007	Here are two pieces of watermelon that look the same, like paper mache, but they are ceramic. The only difference between the two is one shaker has 3 holes and the other shaker has 1 hole. They are the same color as a real piece of watermelon; the middle red with black seeds, the white with a tint of green rind, and the green rind. The red on these shakers have tiny white dots. Each piece is a 4¼" or 10½cm slice. Both pieces have their plastic stoppers. Made in Japan - $8-$12(HG98)

Watermelon Slices
#I008	This salt and pepper shaker set is a very shiny pair of watermelon slices. They are the same color as real pieces of watermelon; the middle is red and has black seeds that have a little white on them. The rind is white and green. Both shakers have their plastic stopper.
